Obstructive sleep apnea is a sleep disorder, which causes breathing to stop and resume repeatedly during sleep. While we sleep, the throat muscles keep the airway open. If these muscles relax, the airway narrows, causing breathing difficulties. If it narrows a little, the most common consequence is snoring, but if it narrows a lot, it can block the pathway, preventing breathing.
It is a pathology that affects a large part of the population, consciously or unconsciously, and that can affect both children and adults of both sexes.
What can cause apnea?
What types of apnea are there?
The most common treatment for Obstructive Sleep Apnea is CPAP. It is a continuous pressure device that helps to open the airways, allowing air to pass through, and thus perform the activity that the muscles in the area, which when relaxing, are not doing.
The device consists of a mask that can be cumbersome and annoying at bedtime.
For this, special pillows have been designed, CPAP pillows, which due to their shape allow the user to sleep on their side without being bothered by the mask and they can rest.
